Yes, way back when I was a teenager in the l950s my mother told me that men did not like women who could beat them at tennis -- and so I stopped playing, of course...

I was made aware of this book from my trainer, who had him speak at an event. And I plan to read the book. I really found your interview with Gross fascinating. I really appreciated his detailing of the journey writing the book and how it led him to women!

I was drawn to athletics as a youth, but I was warned not to get too big. Only gals with strong personalities to match their strong physiques could possibly get beyond that stigma. It looks like Jan Todd, and you - the author of this post, Iris Jamahl Dunkle - managed to do just that.
