I love this piece! I just recently heard about Alta at The Sitting Room! Thank you for reminding me that I want to explore her work and those of the women she published.
I cried when I read this, that all those voices weren't (and aren't) heard. I had (and probably we all had)such similar experiences with all the references being male, except for the wonderful Sitting Room library in Cotati, which opened up a world of women's writing to me in the 90s. Thank you for writing about Alta!
I 100 percent agree about The Sitting Room! It's been such an important place for me, too! And, according to J.J. they have almost all of Shameless Hussy Press's books!
Thanks, Iris, my first book was published by my husband. It took him 21 years to think my work was good enough to bear the hit & run press logo. When he finally selected it, he did a fabulous job, though--beuatiful design, hardcover and softcover. Here's to the Shameless Hussy's of the world.
