Finding Lost Voices: Bonus Post - Lola Ridge's Connections to Edna St. Vincent Millay and Amy Lowell
A weekly email that brings back the voices of those who have been forgotten or misremembered.
The strangest thing about creating these posts is how connections suddenly appear between the women I write about. As Muriel Ruykeser writes her haunting poem, “Islands” (originally published in The Gates, 1976):
O for God’s sake
they are connected
underneath
They look at each other
across the glittering sea
some keep a low profile
Some are cliffs
The bathers think
islands are separate like them
These women are all “connected/underneath” and today I’d love to show some of those connections as found in the lives of Lola Ridge, Edna St. Vincent Millay, and Amy Lowell.
